Myths & Misconceptions About CBD Oil

CBD is surging in popularity for a variety of ailments, and it’s being embraced in a wide variety of products to help people feel the benefits. A large amount of misinformation and common misconceptions of CBD have spread about its uses and effects, as CBD has become more and more popular.

Massage Studio proudly offers CBD massage oil as an add-on to any massage experience, because we’ve read the studies and understand the benefits that this holistic oil can offer our guests. In this blog, we’re separating fact from fiction and breaking down the truth behind a few of the most common myths about CBD products.

MYTH #1: CBD IS A DRUG THAT CAUSES A HIGH

Many people are alarmed by CBD because they think it comes from marijuana, or that it’s an illegal drug. This is simply untrue.

CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis plants. While CBD is a cousin of THC, the compound in marijuana that is responsible for intoxicant and addictive qualities, it doesn’t share the same effects. While both CBD and THC are derived from cannabis, commercially available CBD is derived from hemp—that is, cannabis plants that contain less than 0.3% THC. The process of refining CBD reduces this concentration even further, so there aren’t any significant traces of THC in CBD oil.

Put simply, CBD is a single compound in the cannabis plant, but not the one that gets you “high.” In addition to not being intoxicating, the World Health Organization states that there are no known addiction potential associated with CBD and no withdrawal symptoms.

MYTH #2: CBD OIL IS A CURE-ALL

If you’re researching CBD, you’ll probably see claims that it helps cure everything from paper cuts to cancer. The truth is, CBD isn’t going to cure anything. It can, however, treat the symptoms of a variety of ailments and illnesses.

While the research on CBD is still in its infancy, it has been proven to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory diseases, cancers, anxiety and sleep disorders. The evidence for CBD’s calming effects is so compelling, in fact, that it has been included in an FDA-approved drug for treating epilepsy. Just as the dosage and the effects of a specific medication may vary from person to person when you take it, CBD is the same. It does not make all pain go away.

Like most similar homeopathic and herbal treatments, CBD takes time to work. As it builds up in your system through regular use, you’ll start to feel the anti-inflammatory and relaxing effects. With reduced pain and inflammation, your body can work on healing itself more effectively, making CBD an effective treatment for injuries and illnesses. The Pacific Rheumatology Center has found that, “most people find that their results gradually appear days or weeks of consistently using the recommended amount of their CBD product.”

MYTH #3: CBD IS JUST A FAD

As we’ve discussed, there are numerous proven benefits to CBD which have led to its rise in popularity. And we all know that when something  becomes popular, it suddenly seems to be everywhere, and in every product. So to a degree, this myth isn’t entirely fiction. CBD is indeed having a moment in the spotlight, and we’re seeing it pop up in some strange places—like toothpaste, bed sheets, and chicken wing sauce.

For CBD to have an impact, it needs to be used in a practical way. Think about it—if you get a headache, you might choose to take a painkiller according to the package directions. You wouldn’t sprinkle that painkiller on potato chips and hope for the best. CBD is similar in that nothing is going to happen for you if you’re just putting it on your chicken wings while watching the game. It has to be used in a way that’s proven to be  effective to help you reduce pain, inflammation and anxiety, such as topically during massage therapy.

UNDERSTANDING THE TRUTH

Because CBD is a relatively new product to market, there’s still a lot of ongoing research and work to be done. The studies that have been done have discovered a few consistent truths: CBD is non-addictive and non-intoxicant, and it’s effective in treating muscle pain, inflammation, and anxiety.

When paired with the benefits of regular massage therapy, CBD helps take your relaxation and relief to the next level.
