Massage Spotlight: Therapeutic
This National Massage Therapy Awareness Week, we’re highlighting some of our favorite massage styles to help you discover the best massage for you. The next massage we are featuring is Therapeutic. Depending on your needs, our Therapeutic massages can be a customized blend of Deep Tissue, Sports and Neuromuscular therapies. By incorporating multiple techniques, this massage promotes relaxation, pain relief, and better sleep.
We asked our Tampa Therapeutic specialists, Savannah and Vinny, a few questions about Therapeutic massage and why it may be perfect for you to try on your next visit:
What do you love most about Therapeutic massage as a form of massage therapy?
Savannah:
Therapeutic massage is my go-to modality because it is very versatile and can fit anyone’s needs! It incorporates a mix of Swedish and Deep Tissue to promote relaxation, while also providing precise work in target areas to achieve more in-depth relief.
Vinny:
Therapeutic massage combines the best aspects of Deep Tissue and Swedish. Therapeutic gives me (as the therapist) the freedom to give more pressure and spend more time on a problem area if I feel there is a need for it.
“Therapeutic allows a massage therapist to do what’s needed. People are scared of Deep Tissue but Therapeutic is a great gateway into that. ”
What are the physical benefits of the Therapeutic massage specialty?
Savannah:
Physically, Therapeutic massage aids in relieving tension and discomfort overall. The variety of techniques that are given with this modality, such as stretching, trigger point therapy, myofascial, etc, will ensure specific muscles will have an increase in range and performance.
Vinny:
It's in the name! You can expect the massage to be tailored and built around addressing specific problem areas, and you should leave the table feeling that progress was made.
What should guests expect from their massage?
Savannah:
Guests should expect the therapist to encourage communication during the massage. It is important for the therapist to not only ask, but for the guest as well to voice their feedback on pressure and if there is any discomfort when performing any range of motion.
It is also important for the therapist to communicate that the guest is expected to feel a combination of different techniques given with this style.
Vinny:
Guests should expect relief, whether it's in the form of relaxation or a more targeted issue. Therapeutic massage can be a step beyond the standard Swedish massage, but it doesn't have to be. Therapeutic can be whatever you as a guest want it to be, which gives me, as the therapist, the freedom to meet those needs.
How can a guest prepare for their massage?
Savannah:
“Therapeutic is my go-to modality because it gives us the ability to use various techniques in one!”
A guest can prepare for this massage with the option of doing light stretches beforehand, as well as staying hydrated!
Vinny:
Make sure your schedule is clear, so you can make it to your appointment in time. It's important to arrive in a good headspace and not feel rushed or stressed. If you are late to your massage, you may not get your full time and neither you nor your therapist will feel that your needs were properly addressed.
What would you say to someone who has never gotten a massage?
Savannah:
For someone who has never received a professional massage, I do believe Therapeutic is great! With proper communication, you can have this modality fit your comfort zone.
For example, if you prefer firm pressure in one area, yet not so much in another, then you have that option. Yes, you have that option with other massage modalities, but every therapist has a different approach.
Vinny:
Your body constantly does so much for you. It's time to give back to it! Massage is a very important aspect of self-care. Taking time away from work/family/other stress is important not just for your physical well-being, but also for your emotional and mental well-being.
How has massage therapy changed your life?
Savannah:
Massage Therapy has definitely had an impact on my life. I have never been so connected with so many people! To be able to provide healing care and help guide a person’s body and mind into a form of release is always very rewarding.
Vinny:
Massage therapy has enriched my life in many ways. I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and helping them feel better. Regardless of race, gender, background, creed or social status, we are all humans who just want to feel better and want to feel that their needs are seen and heard. My life is enriched as I listen to your stories (and your body) and use each situation to improve my skills.
